Dirt Cake
Easy Oreo Dirt Cake Recipe is made with creamy vanilla pudding mixed with cool whip and cream cheese layered with crushed Oreos and gummy worms. It’s a fun treat for both kids and adults!
- 20 minutes assembly. It only takes 20 minutes to make this easy recipe! You will need to chill the cake in the refrigerator for 3 hours or more but it’s totally worth it.
- Great For Parties. This recipe makes 15 servings! It’s great for parties and summer get-togethers. It makes for a great kids birthday party dessert.
- No-Bake Dessert. I love a recipe that doesn’t need the oven, especially when it starts to get hot outside. This makes for a great no-bake dessert, especially for the spring and summer.
- Make it your own. One of the best parts about this dessert is adding your own flare. You can use different flavors of Oreos or pudding depending on the occasion you are making it for.
Ingredients For Easy Oreo Dirt Cake Recipe
- Milk. I like using whole milk when I make pudding desserts to get that extra creamy taste and texture.
- Pudding. Make sure to use instant pudding and not cook and serve.
- Oreos. I personally love the extra cream and flavor that double stuff Oreos add to this recipe. You can also use original Oreos.
- Butter. Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature so you get that creamy texture when mixed with the cream cheese.
- Cream Cheese. You’ll want the cream cheese to be softened before mixing. It will make for a chunky mixture if it isn’t softened.
- Powdered Sugar. A light and fluffy sugar compared with granulated sugar to help sweeten up the cream cheese and butter.
- Cool Whip. Thaw the cool whip in the refrigerator before using it.
- Gummy Worms. Add gummy worms or gummy bears to the top of the cake for a fun look. It really gets that dirt cake feel when you use gummy worms. Kids love pretending to eat dirt!
Tips for the Best Results
- Use crushed Oreos. Crushed Oreos make up the “dirt” in dirt cake, so be sure to crush them into chunks to get the full effect. I like to have varying sizes of crushed Oreos.
- Layer the ingredients. It’s really important to layer the cake. You want at least 3 layers of each ingredient. Try to use a clear serving bowl so you can see all those fun layers.
- Cream Cheese Mixture. The creamy filling typically consists of butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, Cool Whip, and pudding to give a fluffier and thicker texture than just traditional pudding. It also makes it taste 10 times better!
- Chill before serving. I know it may be tempting to serve right away, but it’s super important to let the cake chill before serving. It helps form the dirt cake and have a just right texture, plus it helps the flavors blend together.
- Gummy Worms. What’s dirt cake cups without gummy worms on top? Your kids will love the added gummy worm look!
- Cups. Instead of making this one big cake, you can also make individual dirt cake cups. This is great for kid’s parties.
How To Make Dirt Cake
- Crush. Place the Oreos in a gallon-size ziplock bag and crush them into varying sizes with a rolling pin or your hands.
- Pudding. Whisk together the milk and pudding in a medium bowl. Refrigerate until set.
- Mix. Using a stand mixer, cream the butter and cream cheese. Add the powdered sugar and beat.
- Combine. Mix the cream cheese mixture and the vanilla pudding. Beat on the lowest setting until just combined. Fold in the cool whip.
- Assemble. Layer the pudding mixture and cookies evenly until you have about three layers of each. Make sure to end with the crushed cookies and sprinkle the top with gummy worms.
- Chill. Refrigerate the assembled dirt cake for 3 hours, or overnight.
What To Serve With Dirt Cake Cups
This Easy Oreo Dirt Cake Recipe is great on its own for a party or make them with some of my other no-bake desserts like no-bake strawberry pie, Strawberry Shortcake Cups, and no-bake cake batter truffles.
Leftovers & Storing
- Store. It’s important to store any leftover dirt cake or dirt cake cups in the refrigerator with plastic wrap over the top. The dessert is best if eaten within 3-4 days. This dessert does get better with time as the flavors and ingredients blend together. But, the Oreos will start to become too mushy if left too long.

Oreo Dirt Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups milk

Instructions
Crush the Oreos:
- Place all the Oreos in a gallon-size ziplock bag.

- You could also cut each Oreo cookie with a knife.
- Set aside.
Make the pudding:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together milk and pudding. Set aside in the refrigerator to solidify.
- Using a stand mixer or a hand-held electric mixer in a large bowl, cream together butter and cream cheese. Beat until well combined & smooth.

- Sprinkle ½ cup chopped Oreo cookies evenly over the pudding.
- Repeat using 2 cups of pudding, and ½ cup chopped Oreo cookies crumbs for each layer.
- The last layer should be chopped Oreo cookies. Add gummy worms/bears to the top.
