Orange Creamsicle Cookies

Orange Creamsicle Cookies are so soft, sweet, and made with just the right amount of real orange flavor! Make these homemade orange cookies with creamy, zesty frosting for just about any occasion and watch them quickly disappear.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar; beat in eggs and buttermilk.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; add gradually to the creamed mixture.
  • Add orange juice and zest.
  • Drop by tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes.  Cool on wire cooling racks. Frost when cooled.

MAKE FROSTING:

  • Beat powdered sugar, butter, orange juice and zest; gradually add additional juice, if needed, until desired consistency.
  • Frost cookies using a knife or frosting spatula.
  • Let the frosting "set" before storing them in an airtight container so they don't stick together.

Notes

  • Let the cookies cool before frosting them. If the cookies are still warm at all, the frosting will melt and your cookies will be ruined. Make sure the cookies are fully cooled to room temperature prior to frosting!
  • Thin the icing as needed. If you find that your frosting is too thick to easily spread, stir in a splash of orange juice until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Use a cookie scoop. It’s SO important to make sure all of your cookies are the same size so they bake evenly. Use a cookie scoop to make sure they’re all about 1 TBSP in size.
